Born 16 January 1959 in Ibadan, Nigeria.
British-Nigerian singer/songwriter, moved to Clacton-on-Sea, England aged 4 after her parents separated.
She studied fashion design in London and worked as a model before entering the music business in 1980.
At age 17 she was playing the harmonica and did vocals with band Arriva and Pride.
In 1983 her singing was discovered by an impresario while working at a street stall in the Camden market.
They formed a band named Folasade but later shortened the name to Sade and gained worldwide recognition
British soul/smooth jazz group formed out of the ashes of London funk group Pride, and named after their lead singer. The group has had a remarkably stable line-up over two decades and comprises Sade Adu (vocals), Paul S. Denman (bass), Andrew Hale (keyboards) and Stuart Matthewman (sax).
